Krytyka Polityczna in Berlin

The 7th Berlin Biennale invites you to the kick-off event of the Berlin club of Krytyka Polityczna (Political Critique) from Warsaw, which will consequently organize events at KW Institute for Contemporary Art.

The Krytyka Polityczna community, which as an organization includes a publishing house, an informal university and a cultural center in Warsaw, is the most significant left-wing intellectual formation in Poland. It was set up to reinvigorate the tradition of the engaged intelligentsia, to combat economic and cultural exclusion, to spread leftist ideas both in academic and mainstream media and to transform citizens into self-conscious political subjects. The community is formed of journalists, scientists, writers, critics, playwrights, artists and numerous activists, who since the very beginning have been working closely together in the common believe that art and politics go together and that everyone should contribute to a critical and self-conscious society.

Krytyka Polityczna widens its activities to various clubs in Poland, as well as internationally with clubs in Kiev and London, one club in Saint Petersburg being in the course of formation.

The 7th Berlin Biennale supports the development of a presence of Krytyka Polityczna in Germany. This is one of the ways in which the curator Artur Żmijewski would like to politicize culture. Since its very beginning Krytyka Polityczna has been working closely with artists to create a society in which politics is not reserved for politicians and the administrative apparatus, but in which everyone is a political entity.
